How to Choose a Bike

Selecting a bicycle Choice of the bicycle is not an easy task, as it may seem from the first sight. Variety of bike models can confuse even an amateur, who needs just a vehicle. Choice of the model determines future comfort of use. It is important to know the materials, size of the frame, wheels and other useful characteristics. But first of all, I’ll advice you to make a choice of the bicycle type, i.e. to define where and how you are going to use it.

Mountain bike

Mountain bike can be used on any roads The variety of mountain bikes is very large, so everyone can find an appropriate model. These bikes can be used on any road, but they are designed for cross-country. That’s why, selecting a bike pay attention on the shock-absorber and rear suspension. The number of gears is from 21 to 27. This parameter influences the dynamic characteristics, i.e. the maximum speed and acceleration time. Anyway, the wheels will be wider then usual ones 2-2,5 inches, but will have smaller diameter, with deep tread pattern. The choice of frames for mountain bikes is quite various, but it is advisable to choose a durable and light one. Don’t forget that the mountain bike is not designed for a high speed.

Sport bike

Sport bicycles don’t have shock-absorbers It is recommended to choose a sport bike only if you are going to ride on the roads with good covering. Sport bikes usually have from 15 to 30 gears, which are switched with small pitch. Sport bikes don’t have any shock-absorbers – they are not necessary on the smooth asphalt, and they partially consume the energy transferred to the pedals. Wheels are narrow, maybe even without a tread pattern, to ride on the stadiums. Sport bike has a very high speed, it can ride 10km/hour faster then the mountain bike. But if the road is rough, you won’t be able to use the whole bike potential, whatever the frame or gear will be.

Roadster

Roadsters usually have only one gear Roadster is the best choice for everyday rides in the city. They have an easy construction; usually they have only one gear (some models may have up to 7). Wheels are covered with mudguards. A bike can be also equipped with luggage carrier, light-reflecting elements, light and signal. The choice of break is not big, usually its foot. The frame can be male or female.

Child (three-wheel) bike

The choice of the bike for a child is not so easy. Everything depends on his age. If he is 3-4 years old, then you should buy him a three-wheel bike. There are many models. It is advisable that the bike has a handle for parents, so that it could be used as a pram. Child bikes The choice of bikes for older kids and teenagers is numerous. You may buy an adult model, the frame height should correspond to the kid’s height. The size of the wheels for child bike is from 12 to 24 inches.

The right bike should work in any weather conditions. Frame, wheel size, its width, tires, shock-absorbers, breaks and other technical characteristics of the bike will be determinant. As in any other choice don’t be too persistent and don’t try to save money. Have a good purchase and comfortable cycling!
