How to Choose a Mattress

Well selected mattress is a guarantee of your good health.
The choice of the mattress is an important decision. Good mattress allows you to have a rest and to feel comfortable all day long.

The basis of the mattress is a spring block (but there are also mattresses without springs). Then goes the stiff layer – spanbond, felt, protecting soft filling from contact with spring block. Then there is volume filling (foamed polyurethane, coconut block, coconut coira, natural latex, marine algae, wool). The combination of mattresses and types of spring blocks can be completely different. Jacquard or knitted fabric is usually used as the upholstery.

By the type of spring block there are next mattresses:
1. Block of separate springs. If you want your mattress to be durable it should have no less then 120 springs on every km².
2. Strengthened spring block. There are flat springs between the frames of spring block. There also can be blocks of high thickness foamed polyurethane between the rows of springs. All this makes the mattress elastic and stiff.
3. Mattresses on the blocks of separate springs. Every block is in a separate fabric cup. This mattress can be called a mattress with orthopedic effect. Body weight is equally spread on the whole surface, it allows to relax muscles and the spine is in the physiologically correct position.
4. There are mattresses without springs. They are made of foam-rubber or what is more expensive, from natural latex, latexed coconut coira and combined mattresses.

Such mattresses are easily transported, they can be rolled. These mattresses have anatomic effect, which means that the mattress repeats the outline of your body.

Selecting a mattress, remember that the larger is your weight, the more springs should be in the mattress block. And if it is stated – “more then 90 kg on 1 sleeping place”, then light person won’t feel comfortable on such mattress. If one partner is much heavier then the other, then it is better to buy a stiff mattress. It is also recommended to buy a mattress with spring block, that has horizontal stiff zones. Light person won’t “slip” to the heavier one.

The size of the mattress should be chosen considering your height – mattress should be at least 15sm longer.

If you are choosing a mattress for the already bought bed – size up the internal bed dimensions. But if you are going to make bespoke furniture – then buy a mattress first. And it won’t be a problem to make appropriate furniture.

Ready made beds are usually made for standard mattresses.

Nowadays producers can make a mattress especially for you. In average it will cost additional 20% from the standard mattress price. Companies can also make round, oval or any other mattress according to your fantasy and sum of money.

If there is such possibility, lie on the mattress for some time before buying it. Toss and turn on it, lie down together. It will be easier to understand if this mattress will suit you.

Average mattress life time is 10 years. Strengthened model – 15 years. But if you have a possibility, it is better to change the mattress after 5-7 years, because it is amortized. You should take care of the mattress, turn it over every 2-3 months, vacuum clean it and wipe with special cleaning fluid for textile. Don’t allow children to jump on the mattress, don’t sit on the same place to avoid deformation.

Whatever beautiful bedroom you have, the main thing is correctly selected mattress. Your spine is your health. Remember it and have sweet dreams.
